Miss Dawn’s Musings – Year of the Geek Once More

Blog-MissDawnsMusingsAnother new year is upon us, full of hope and promise and blah, blah, blah all the other sappy BS that everyone spouts for the first week of January until reality hits. Ok, I’m not really all that cynical, just not the warm and cuddly type. But honestly, there really is a lot to look forward to this year for geeks – movies, tv shows, comics, books… everything! V-Yellow’s Comic Box – Year-End Round-Up

VernComicThis year treated us to a lot of comic book shows and films. With television shows and movies such as Daredevil, Agents of SHIELD, Gotham, Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, Ant-Man, The Avengers Age of Ultron, Jessica Jones and iZombie, and they ended the year off right with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Irregular’s Intel – That Thing About Iron Fist

IrregularIntelEarlier this week my wife shared with me an article about the sensitive issues surrounding the casting of Danny Rand, Iron Fist in the upcoming Netflix series of the same name. In the article, written by Kwame Opam and posted on theverge.com, the author points out how, in his current depiction, the character is a white male whose behavior is steeped in Asian tradition. Although it is a mix of Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Tibetan and several other Asian cultures, the author points out how it can be viewed as appropriative. Especially with the way Marvel has been working towards showing more diversity in the cinematic and comic universes, this could be a touchy subject. Irregular’s Intel – Black Friday Edition or Why I Love Luke Cage

IrregularIntelUnless you’ve been stuck on Mars for the past six month, you have heard about Marvel’s Jessica Jones. For those in the know and not in the know, it is a series based on the Marvel Max miniseries Alias. It follows Jessica Jones, a former superhero turned private detective. She is a street level character who has some ties with Luke Cage. Now, Mr. Cage is a marvel character who has been around since the early 70’s and has mostly been a B or C tier character until Alias and the “Civil War” event. Now, he’s up there with the big boys – Cage is even an Avenger now! As you may know, he is one of my faves and is a great study in self improvement. Ride with me in the way back machine as I give you a crash course on him from his meager beginnings to his rise to the top. Miss Dawn’s Musings – He Said, She Said

Blog-MissDawnsMusingsI recently finished reading volume 1 of Matt Fraction’s Hawkeye (My Life As a Weapon). Outside of reading up on things related to the movies, I’ve never been very into any of the Avengers comics. But I’ve heard such good things about this particular run of Hawkeye since it debuted a couple years ago that I wanted to give it a shot (I have no idea if I intended that pun).
