She Geek Critique – Wakanda’s Warrior Women

If you’re like the majority of the movie going public, you saw Black Panther this past weekend (it is one of the highest grossing opening weekends ever, after all). And sure, I could do a review of it, but that’s what everyone else is doing – plus, you already know it’s a fantastic movie. What I want to talk about is female representation in the film and what Marvel has done right, where so many other movies have failed. Irregular’s Intel – Strong Female Characters: On Their Own Terms

I often shy away from writing about strong female characters because I worry that I’ll come off as sounding like “that guy”. Strong females have always been around and I know that they are not new. Best Geeky Finds – It’s Time for a New Dyna-mic Duo

Blog-BGFIn the 70s there was a plethora of great Saturday morning television. Kids were able to catch Spider-man and his amazing friends, the Hulk, Lancelot Link, Superman, H.R. But this time around there seems to be a bit of a trend that could become a problem. Continue reading Miss Dawn’s Musings – Too Female?

Blog-MissDawnsMusings

Is there a female hero revolution in the works? Over the past few years, “strong female character” has become a desired label on tv shows, in movies and in books. It seems now that it’s finally becoming commonplace and rarely needs to be said. Yet there is still the need for the Bectal test (and, even better, the sexy lamp test, thanks to Kelly Sue DeConnick) and progress is slow. But I think it’s getting somewhere and partly that’s due to an increased female fan base (because women can be geeks too!) and a more open-minded media industry. Things are finally catching up to the real world! Continue reading Miss Dawn’s Musings – Female Hero Revolution
