GW1 Issue 155 – Check Local Listings

This week there’s no blockbuster movie, no major event, no big season finale – so Kylan and Ken finally get to talk about one of their favorite things: syndicated 80s & 90s tv shows. It’s all the cheese, barely adequate writing and bad special effects you could want… and more! But first we cover the fun we had at Bark in the Park, the Humane Society of Summit County’s doggy fun fair and charity walk. And we have some interesting geek news to share, including details on long-awaited sequels, a couple of show renewals and why the score to Deadpool 2 has a parental advisory. Listen now!  Continue reading GW1 Issue 155 – Check Local Listings

Miss Dawn’s Musings – Recognition Where It’s Due

If you’re the kind of geek who, like me, loves geek movies you know how enjoyable they are (when done right). And we all know they make production companies a crap load of money. But seldom do they get the critical recognition they deserve, especially when awards season comes around.  Continue reading Miss Dawn’s Musings – Recognition Where It’s Due

Miss Dawn’s Musings – All the Deadpool

Blog-MDMIf you don’t know by now that I’m a Deadpool fangirl, you’ve obviously not been reading this blog or listening to Geek Watch One. But anyway, we all know Deadpool opened this past weekend and, of course, I was there Thursday night to see it. (I’ve already seen it a second time too.) So if you haven’t yet seen the film and don’t want to know all the details, here’s my one sentence, spoiler-free review: This is everything a fan could want in a Deadpool movie – the characters are done right, there is violence and mayhem galore, and it’s absolutely hilarious. Now that that’s done, stop reading because the rest of this post is full of spoilers! Continue reading Miss Dawn’s Musings – All the Deadpool

Miss Dawn’s Musings – Digging Up the Past

Blog-MissDawnsMusingsI believe that if you are truly a fan of something, you should gather as much knowledge about it as you can (and, as a fan, you’re going to want to know everything anyway). This is particularly true of comic books characters, especially those with a long history. Sure, you can get origin stories and details on wiki sites or, sometimes, through a publisher’s website. But whenever possible, reading the actual stories is the best way to immerse yourself in the character. Continue reading Miss Dawn’s Musings – Digging Up the Past

Miss Dawn’s Musings – Year of the Geek Once More

Blog-MissDawnsMusingsAnother new year is upon us, full of hope and promise and blah, blah, blah all the other sappy BS that everyone spouts for the first week of January until reality hits. Ok, I’m not really all that cynical, just not the warm and cuddly type. But honestly, there really is a lot to look forward to this year for geeks – movies, tv shows, comics, books… everything!
