Best Geeky Finds – In the Not Too Distant Future…

bestgeekyfindsWe’ve made a lot of jokes about my movie tastes on the podcast over the last year. I will admit to fully enjoying movies like Plan 9 from Outer Space and Howard the Duck. Part of this is how I grew up watching these odd movies, while another part of this for me is the pure joy and imagination the original directors, no matter how horrible these movies turned out, had when originally constructing such travesties. If you have ever seen Tim Burton’s Ed Wood, about the most famous B-movie director, you may also understand this feeling. Continue reading Best Geeky Finds – In the Not Too Distant Future…

Miss Dawn’s Musings – Year of the Geek Once More

Blog-MissDawnsMusingsAnother new year is upon us, full of hope and promise and blah, blah, blah all the other sappy BS that everyone spouts for the first week of January until reality hits. Miss Dawn’s Musings – Red vs Green

Blog-MissDawnsMusingsLast week (on Christmas Day) the full trailer for Deadpool was released. As expected, there was a red band version and a green band version. Obviously, the red band was the one to watch. There are a lot of movies that do this for trailers now and there are a couple reasons for it. First, having a green band trailer means it can be shown on television and in theaters – we’ve all seen the green screen with “this trailer approved for this audience” language. Second, people can choose whether or not to have “strong language and violence” in the trailer they watch online. Continue reading Miss Dawn’s Musings – Red vs Green

Best Geeky Finds – Review: Santa’s Slay (2005)

bestgeekyfindsToday may be the day after Christmas, but it’s not too late to watch holiday movies. Why not a horror comedy? If you’re not ready for something like Krampus (I’m certainly not), why not delve into a premise even more ridiculous? Santa’s Slay (rated R) is based on one simple premise where Santa Claus (WWE Heavyweight Bill Goldberg) is actually Satan’s son. Around the same time Christ was born, a child was born on Earth from one of Satan’s flings. This child, named Santa (who else?), did what any other demon would do — create havoc and torture all around him. Everything changed one particular Christmas night though.
