Miss Dawn’s Musings – Highway to the Comfort Zone

Blog-MDMAdmittedly, I am somewhat immersed in my fandoms (ok, more than somewhat at times). But it still surprises me when there’s something being released mainstream that I feel is getting a lot of “press” (in whatever form that may be), yet norms that I mention it to are all “what’s that?”. Miss Dawn’s Musings – A Step Too Far

Blog-MDMLast week I wrote about how it’s a great time for geeks because of all the crossover and expansion of fandoms throughout tv, movies, books, comics, games… everywhere. But there is a down side too. Hard to believe, I know, but it comes down to the merchandise. Sure, you can buy all kinds of things with your favorite characters emblazoned on, but there are times when merch goes a bit too far. Continue reading Miss Dawn’s Musings – A Step Too Far

Miss Dawn’s Musings – Expanding Fandoms

Blog-MDMThere was a time when a fandom of choice could only be enjoyed within its original medium. Star Trek and Doctor Who were on television, Star Wars was a movie, Dungeons & Dragons was a game. But somewhere along the way, creators realized that fans not only wanted more, but would devour everything about their fandom of choice. I have tried all kinds of eating plans and diets and whatnot, but they all failed. About four years ago I happened across a website that took people’s geekdoms and turned them into pathways to fitness. That website is www.nerdfitness.com and it was the first thing that actually made sense to me. There were even free workout programs that you could print off to get you started and groups for support. But, these were not your ordinary groups… but I digress. Miss Dawn’s Musings – Tumblr Fans

Blog-MissDawnsMusingsI have a variety of fandoms – Doctor Who, Supernatural, Marvel comics, Deadpool, Wonder Woman, steampunk (to name the primary ones). This does not include the broader geekdoms (books, scifi/fantasy, the paranormal, etc.), just a few of the more specific areas. Anyway, I feel like I can legitimately call myself a fan of these things. I know the history, I’ve read things, watched things, researched things, taken part in deep geeky discussions about characters and plots and relationships and “what ifs”.
