She Geek Critique – The Thing About Fandoms

As geeks, we all have our fandoms. That’s sort of the point – you really can’t be a geek without one. Whether it’s in the realm of books, television, comics, games, movies, science, tech or a crossover hybrid sort of thing, every geek has at least one fandom and most have multiples (the best geeks have multiples – no one really likes a geek who won’t shut up about the single property they’re into!). I’ve been thinking about the prevalence of social media in modern society. I mean, let’s face it, geek culture thrives, in part, because of it. It is an awesome way to keep contact with friends and family or to even find old acquaintances from the past. It is the best way to keep up with what is going on in the world, your fandom or your neighborhood.
