Back in 1998 things were not all well and good at Marvel. As a matter of fact, they were damn near done. Sales were down and, outside of Blade, there wasn’t a lot going on for them. But someone decided to take a shot in the dark and produce grittier comics featuring some of Marvels less popular characters: Daredevil, Punisher and Black Panther, to name a few. Irregular’s Intel – Changing the Story
I am pretty much a purist when it comes to my comic adaptations, unless the change improves the narrative. Marvel’s Luke Cage is a great example of what can happen when deviating from the source material improves the story. Batman and Robin is a prime example of what happens when deviation goes wrong. I’ll admit that it is a fine line. You want to make the fans happy, but you also want to make the story accessible. In either case there will be some critics, but you can’t please everyone, can you? Comics Cosmos – Avengers Assemble, Dude!
It was disappointing when Hawkeye was cancelled earlier this year. Kate Bishop was doing a great job taking over the archery ass kicking from Clint Barton. She took super heroing seriously, yet there was still a lot of fun (and sarcasm). But Marvel is satisfying her fans with the new West Coast Avengers, which started its run last week. Comics Cosmos – Unstoppable Return
Last month, when talking about the miniseries Ant-Man and the Wasp, mention was made of The Unstoppable Wasp series, starring Nadia Pym. The book followed not only Nadia, but other “girl geniuses” who saved the day. It ran for only right issues in 2017, but Marvel recently announced that the title, with all the familiar characters, would be making a comeback this fall.
