Mark Millar’s Huck is a tale of a simple man with special gifts who wants to live a quiet life in a small town. He does a good deed every day for whoever is in need, but otherwise keeps to himself. His neighbors always know the deeds are his doing, but they keep things quiet as well, as a way to thank him. She Geek Critique – Getting It Right
As I have mentioned before, movie casting is sometimes a big deal to me. This is especially in regard to geek properties, most especially comic book movies where the characters need to have a rather specific look. Regardless of abilities, I think it’s important to capture that look to truly capture the character. But even when the casting is not quite right, there can be moments in a movie when the acting, story and visuals come together so well that they get the character right. Best Geeky Finds – What if God[s] Were One of [Among] Us?
I can’t say that it’s enough just to have a series or movie based on a Neil Gaiman work, but certain works merit film transformation over others. Stardust in 2007 was impressive and incorporated Gaiman’s humor wisely, yet felt more like a Disney film. Two years later, an animated Coraline proved to be creepy, yet moving the setting to America took a bit out of the initial moral of the novel. Neverwhere had been made in multiple forms on radio and television (the best productions featuring Peter Capaldi, in my opinion) while Good Omens, Gaiman’s collaboration with Terry Pratchett, was produced as a radio drama for BBC radio with Colin Morgan shortly before Pratchett’s death. Yet one novel I have waited a long time for since my first reading proved to be the best Gaiman production of all – American Gods. Irregular’s Intel – Summer Flings
As school starts to wind down and the heat starts to crank up, we’ll be inundated with suggestions for summer reading and summer series to watch and all that jazz. I think that’s all well and good, but these lists are usually filled with books I wouldn’t read even if I was paid to! But, because my TBR list stretches all of Route 66 and part of Electric Avenue, I decided that I am going to dedicate this summer to something I have not done in 4 years, or so… I am binging all of the Rogue Squadron novels!
